Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility
We acknowledge our responsibility and work consequently to reduce our emissions. Our goal is to cut 45% of emissions within 2030 and contribute to the industry being free of fossil fuels within 2050. Read more below on how we work towards the goals.
We are renewing our fleet and investing in modern airplanes that release less CO2
Did you know that we can reduce our emissions by up to 17% by using newer and more efficient airplanes? Our fleet be renewed by 2030, and we are well on our way already.
- We are replacing our airplanes of the kind Boeing 737-800 with 737 MAX 8.
- Noise in the cabin will be reduced by 40%
- We made an agreement with Boeing in 2022 to buy 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 with an option of 30 more of the same kind
- 17 of our combined 81 airplanes were of this newer kind at the end of 2023
We are increasing our use of biofuel
Norwegian is a co-owner of Norsk e-Fuel who creates biofuel, a new renewable fuel that can replace fossil fuels. Increasing the use of biofuel contributes to decreasing the emissions from aircrafts and is one of our focus areas.
How we fly
Our pilots use modern technology to gather wind- and weather data to choose smart routes when flying. In 2022 we decreased 50 000 tons CO2 emission by actively choosing smart routes in air.
- We use different tools to navigate the most fuel-efficient routes in air. For instance, the app “SkyBreathe” that analyze our fuel usage for every flight
- Our pilots can actively take action to reduce fuel usage by using the information from these tools. Thereby cutting our emissions
- We use wind- and weather data in real-time that is delivered by AVTECH
- Pilots use weather data to calculate the best height to fly for lowest fuel usage
